Kate Cameron

Kate Cameron is an English house and trance music singer with an alto voice.

Initially coming to prominence via her involvement in Norman Cook's Freak Power outfit, Kate Cameron has subsequent made a name for herself as credited guest vocalist on a multitude of releases.

The first notable release bearing her vocals was Mount Rushmore's "You better" in 1996, which was circulated on white label with no official release.

Later that year Kate's vocals were applied to The Space Brothers production "I am" by Chakra, widely considered a pioneering 'epic house' production. Initially surfacing on the Jackpot label, "I am" received a major release through WEA, peaking at number 24 in the UK chart in January 1997.[1]

A further Chakra single "Home" was released in summer 1997. Featuring mixes from Salt Tank and Solar Stone, "Home" peaked at 49 on the Top 75.

In 1998 Kate's vocal from "You better" was sampled on a surprise hard trance crossover hit for Dutch DJ Signum, whose "What ya got 4 me", hit number 35 in the UK Top 40 via a release on Tidy Trax

A remixed version of "You better" hit the shelves shortly after this, becoming a large crossover hit by virtue of a very popular tribal remix from Victor Calderone. Shortly afterward Kate also appeared on "What am I gonna do?" by Spacebase, which she co-wrote with Dillon & Dickins,[2] released on Higher State in 1998.

Soon afterward, trance production outfit The Space Brothers made a return to the UK consciousness with their Matt Darey remixed euphoric trancer "Legacy", which also featured Kate's vocals, as did the equally well received follow up "Heaven will come". Kate can also be heard on the majority of album tracks on The Space Brothers' debut artist album "Shine".

Latterly, in 1999 a third Chakra single "Love shines through" materialised and proved to be something of a sleeper hit.

Following her many collaborations with The Space Brothers. Kate Cameron also made a memorable guest appearance on the 2002 release "Far from in love" by Above & Beyond. A further Chakra single, "Doors", appeared in early 2003 and was shortly followed by another The Space Brothers production "I can feel your love" - Quadraophonic. Both saw releases on Lost Language.

Kate Cameron is also a tutor at Brighton Institute of Modern Music, teaching voice, piano & french horn.[3][4]
